LONDON: The Climate Group is today announcing two new appointments to boost its global leadership team and work with sub-national governments. Tim Ash Vie joins as Director of the Under2 Coalition, a leading, international coalition of sub-national governments that have committed to ambitious climate action, for which The Climate Group acts as Secretariat. The Hon Mike Rann, former Premier of South Australia, joins the organization as Trustee to the UK Board.

Tim joins the organization from the Adam Smith International where he was Head of Climate Change. Prior to that, he was a Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he developed and established the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), and served as its first Chief Operating Officer. Prior to this, Tim was a UK civil servant in the Departments for the Environment, the Treasury and the Ministry of Defence.

On joining The Climate Group, Tim said: “I am really looking forward to joining The Climate Group and have long admired the organisation’s work.

“The 177 jurisdictions committed to the Under2 Coalition are at the forefront of ambitious climate action, and showing real commitment and leadership; I am excited to have this opportunity to support them in in helping achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.”

Mike Rann who joins as Trustee, was previously Premier of South Australia between 2002 to 2011, where he helped to significantly boost the uptake of renewable energy. He later joined as co-chair of The Climate Group’s States & Regions Alliance, where state, regional and provincial governments demonstrate climate leadership, share best practices on policy, report on measurable climate actions and drive emissions reductions. Rann was also Australian High Commissioner to London, and later Ambassador to Italy and Albania. He is now based in London where Rann Strategy Group specializes in renewable energy solutions internationally.

Speaking of his appointment, Mike Rann said: “I’m delighted to be joining The Climate Group as Trustee. As businesses and governments continue to take action on climate change, I look forward to working with the UK Board to strengthen the organization’s remit to accelerate the pace of action globally.”

Speaking of the appointments Helen Clarkson, CEO, The Climate Group said: “I am delighted to announce both Tim and Mike to their respective roles within The Climate Group. Both have extensive experience of working internationally on climate issues with governments, and will help to significantly strengthen our work with states and regions.

“The Under2 Coalition encompasses some of the most ambitious sub-national governments in the world that are playing a vital role in implementing the Paris Agreement. As the scale of their commitment continues to accelerate, I look forward to working with them both as we continue to expand the reach of the Coalition globally.”
