Helen Clarkson, CEO of The Climate Group, has responded to the news that less than 2% of girls in England take A-Level physics.

“It’s the engineers, scientists and coders who will deliver the solutions to climate change, but with less than 2% of girls taking A-Level physics, and nearly half of schools not seeing any studying the subject at all, the problem is only going to get worse if we don’t do something about it. We have a huge opportunity here if we inspire the next generation to take on the biggest scientific challenge facing the world today.

“It's vital that we give young women the right opportunities to succeed in science and engineering so that we have the best minds tackling climate change. Universities, businesses, and charities need to amplify the work women in science already do to inspire greater participation in these subjects at school.”
